Survey results are in for the Uniontown-Colton community improvement effort. A total of 546 surveys were sent out by the Uniontown Community Development Association and 30 percent came back, according to WSU survey monitors.
“We are so pleased we got so much response,” said Dale Miller, UCDA president.
The rate of return puts the factor for confidence in the results at plus or minus five percent, Miller said.
“It was quite encouraging, in my opinion,” said Colton Mayor Jerry Weber. “It really seems like everyone cares about our two towns and wants to improve them.”
Miller said that all demographics were represented in the responses, except for residents in the under 20 age bracket.
Results included varying opinions, and a fairly unified willingness to help.
Over 70 percent of respondents indicated that they would volunteer for work in the communities.
There was also strong support for doing annual town cleanups, which came from the comments section of the surveys.
“In a small town, you have strong opinions,” said Miller.
“I was really impressed with the comments that were written in,” said Mayor Weber.
There was also support indicated for the school, amidst varying opinions on how to go about it and what to do.
“There is a lot of support for the school, which shows in the results,” said Miller. “But we don’t want to get in the way of the school board.”
A community meeting was scheduled for Wednesday night at the Dahmen Barn to discuss the survey results.
