The new Palouse Community Center is special not only because its structure is pleasing, but also because community need, community volunteerism, community sacrifice and community generosity made it real. All who flipped burgers, haunted Palouse, baked pies, sold crafts, cleaned up, sorted rummage, served on committees, donated money or services deserve credit.

The Palouse Arts Council, Palouse School and Palouse Federated Church also deserve praise for filling the void while the Community Center was incubating.

Commissioners in Whitman County are elected - then go deaf. When Finch was in office, he presided over the open public meeting for the first Hawkins Bond. He began, “We’re hear to listen to you citizens, not to give our opinions on the issue.” He ended saying that he had worked with Hawkins for three years and didn’t care if citizens opposed the bond - he would still vote for it. Sound familiar?

Partch and O’Neill decided to make it easy on themselves - why waste time on silly old open public meetings? These guys think they’re “special.” Why should they go through formalities? (Remember, these are the “geniuses” who oversaw the quarter-million dollars in County funds that vanished!)

These guys are “legends in their own minds!” They, like Finch, don’t care what citizens think or want. Remember a fellow named Roger Whitten? Partch and O’Neill needed to be recalled. -They even admitted that they violated the Open Public Meetings Act. They sure dodged a bullet on that one! While you’re strolling down Memory Lane, does anyone remember being angry about that $19,000 to defend these clowns? Sounds like a bargain now, eh?

Is anyone beginning to see that Roger Whitten was right about that recall action? Very soon, you will see that Roger was also right in his opposition to the wind turbine farm on the Palouse, too!

False concepts

Our state government recently made same-sex marriage into law after proponents appealed for the civil right of homosexual couples to marry as equal to heterosexual couples. These civil rights arguments have developed from the thought that sexual orientation is pre-determined by genetic and biology and therefore individuals have no more control over it as they do their own race or nationality. Not granting homosexual couples the same right to marry would then be a discriminatory policy that only bigots would implement and uphold.

The above form of thinking and arguments are in error but have become increasingly numerous as our society’s rejection of God as Creator steadily grows. False concepts of evolution have been adopted in attempts to displace God and to remove men and women’s accountability for their actions by justifying them as nothing more than a natural result of their own genetic or biological dispositions. God did indeed create all men and women and while some have greater inclinations towards some things than others as a result of genetics, God has the power to help each person keep all of his commandments regardless of their genetic or biologic inclinations.

Same-sex marriage is against the will of God. I do not support our state legislature in their recent passage of same-sex marriage and will unite with opponents’ referendum efforts to repeal the law. I applaud the three state legislators from District 9 for their courage to cast opposing votes against same-sex marriage and invite all members of our community, state and nation to take courage and stand for what is right. Say no to same-sex marriage.
