Connie Robertson of St. John phoned the Gazette last week to warn area residents of a telephone Medicare scam.
Robertson said she received a phone call from someone offering dental, vision, chiropatric and prescription benefits for a one-time fee of $379.
Suspicious, Robertson called officials with Medicare, who referred her to the U.S. inspector general’s office. They informed her Medicare officials will never call in benefits. All Medicare options will be sent in writing.
Anyone receiving a phone call offering benefits is advised to hang up and report the call to local law enforcement authorities.
