Friends and family gathered at the Colton Gun Club for the wedding Oct. 1, 2011, of Alys Joleen Durfey of Pullman and James Leon Siedman of Dusty.
Parents of the bride are Jim and Jude Durfey of Pullman, and parents of the groom are Ellen Edd, Poulsbo, and John Siedman, Mindanao, Philippines.
The vintage 1930s format brought many in costume. The prohibition sensitive social hour was raided by two Keystone Cops, friends Zach Kincaid and Kris Bofto, in uniform with siren, who escorted two surprised, beer drinking guests out of the establishment.
The remaining guests followed the “Bootlegger,” friend Craig Gurney, out the room and through a back door into the “Speak Easy”, where the Snake River Six jazzed up the guests with ragtime and 1920-30’s jazz music.
The groom and his attendants were dressed in black, pin-striped Zoot Suits with traditional Godfather hats and black/white wing-tip shoes. The bride wore a pink, Sue Wong strapless evening gown, featuring an ornately beaded empire bodice and a skirt of tiered, pink, wispy feathers; she accessorized with elbow length, lace, evening gloves and small lace ornament for her hair. Her attendants wore pink, tiered, flapper dresses with long black beads, and black, feathered headbands. The ladies carried bouquets of white day lilies, and the gentlemen sported white boutonnieres of the same.
The ceremony was officiated by Arthur and Joann Roetzel of Custer, S. D., grandparents of the bride. Attendants of the couple were Ryan and Audra Durfey Weber, Bettendorf, Iowa; Adele Durfey and Vladimir Bubnov, L’Viv, Ukraine; Robert and Candace Siedman, Hermiston, Ore., and Michele Siedman and Arlo Marti, Seattle.
Dinner was headlined by Mr. Durfey’s home-smoked sausages and barbecued pork loins.
Kim Keifer and Christie Needham, Pullman, managed the event.
Flowers were provided by Jessica Moore and the Pullman FFA Horticulture class, and dinner service/clean-up was provided by Tina DaVault and the Pullman FFA Horse Judging Team.
Vickie Chalmers, Albion, made two wedding cakes for the event: a pink and black, 3-tiered, 3-flavored wedding cake with 1930’s detailing and a Teddy Bear couple topper; and a one-layer cake in a fishing theme, the couple’s favorite hobby, displaying a cake-topper couple decked out in their fishing attire, with a successful catch and their three little Boston Terriers at their feet.
The bride graduated from Pullman High School in 2003 and from WSU in 2008 with a BS in Ag Technology and Management and a BA in Business/Management and Operations. The groom graduated from Colfax High School in 2001 and from WSU, cum laude, in 2009 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics. The bride is currently a Human Resource Coordinator for Avalara Software in Bainbridge Island, and the groom is a lead electrical engineer for the NUWC, in Keyport.
This was a wedding celebration because Jimmy and Alys had actually eloped and were actually married April 1, 2010, April Fools’ Day, in Seattle.
