Colfax, Reardan split McDonald opener

Colfax and Reardan girls Tuesday booked a softball split in a makeup game at Schmuck Park. The Reardan team rolled to Colfax during the spring break for the first action at McDonald Park after the record onslaught of March rains.

Reardan won the first game 2-1 after the Bulldogs lost one runner at the plate during a seventh inning charge.

Coach Terry Eng said a lot of Tuesday’s outcome had to do with solving the pitching style of Reardan thrower Chantel Heath who allowed just six hits and walked nobody in the first game.

“We just couldn’t get runners on base,” Eng noted. The Bulldogs sent just 21 batters to the plate over seven innings.

Colfax pitcher Amy Hickman allowed 11 hits, but walked just one and struck out 10.

Reardan scored one in the first and one in the seventh to lead 2-0 going into the last inning. In the last chance seventh, the Bulldogs lost one runner at the plate, then scored their first run but again couldn’t keep the rally alive.

In the second game, the Bulldog batters moved up slightly in the batting box and picked up a 8-5 win. They tagged Heath for 13 hits. She still fanned eight Bulldogs, walked zero, but hit two batters.

Reardan started with three runs in the first inning, but the Bulldogs took the lead for keeps with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Hickman allowed 10 hits in the second game, fanned nine Indians and walked just one.

The split leaves Colfax at 3-1 to date in the Bi-County league with Kettle Falls booked here Saturday.

Game one hits: Sam Pearson, double; Rachel Robinson, single; Amy Hickman, two singles; Taylor Larsen, triple; Rachel Hardie, single.

Second game hits: Lauren Moore, two singles, double; Pearson, single, triple; Hickman, single; Larsen, two singles; Scoop Hahan, single ; Erick Eng, three singles; Abby Muir, single.
