Young Bulldog team bags wins at McDonald

First baseball games at McDonald Park netted the first baseball wins Tuesday for Coach Mike Parrish and his young baseball crew. The Bulldogs bounced Reardan 11-1 in the first game and 9-6 in the second game.

Reardan rolled south to make-up games which were rained out last week during the swampout at McDonald as a result of record rainfall in March. A couple of dry days put the Colfax baseball complex on line after all March action was scratched. Latest victim was a four-team spring tournament set before the spring break.

Sophomore pitcher Patrick Jacobs threw the first Colfax win of the season when he allowed just two hits in the opener.

Colfax batters rapped 14 hits for the 11-1 win in the first game. The Bulldogs shut it down on the 10-run rule after scoring their last two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In addition to the two-hitter, Jacobs tagged three of the Colfax hits in the opener.

Other hitters for Colfax in the first game were Garrett Burke, single and double, Brady Ellis, single; Jaime Bledsoe, single and double; Dylan Heiser, two singles; John Mellor, two singles; and Connor Appel, two singles.

Colfax pegged a 9-6 win in the second game, again with solid pitching. They scored three runs each in the first two innings to take control.

Jaime Bledsoe for Colfax had a solid start, but he began to give up walks in the third and fourth innings, and Reardan cut the Bulldog lead to one run.

Parrish called in Garrett Burke in the fifth inning and the freshman shut Reardan’s bats down for the balance of the game. Reardan finished with just four hits.

Colfax scored three runs in the second to go ahead 3-0. Jacobs singled in two runs and Mellor scored Jacobs with one of his two doubles for the game.

Colfax hitters in the second game were Ellis, double; Jacobs, three singles; Bledsoe, two singles; Mellor, two doubles, and Dylan Heiser two singles.

Now 2-2 in league play, the Bulldogs are slated to host Kettle Falls Saturday in the next league round. A return of sloppy weather late in the week put the team back in the “wait and see” mode.
