Palouse principal search nears end

The search for a new principal for Palouse schools is advancing after two weeks of the job postings around the northwest. As of last Thursday, April 12, a total of 11 people had submitted applications while more were expected by Friday’s deadline.

Interviews are scheduled for April 24 with a 6 p.m. meet-and-greet session that night in the school library.

Jake Dingman, who has been hired to take over the superintendent’s job at Palouse July 1, said his goal is to have four finalists. Dingman is heading the search for a new principal.

At that point, a committee will screen the candidates and conduct interviews. Associated Student Body officers will be part of the interviews.

“So far everything’s going very smooth,” said Dingman, who also serves as the superintendent and principal at Oakesdale. “People seem to be excited to have a dedicated principal in the building.”

The singular principal will take over for part of the tasks assigned to Supt. Bev Fox, who served a dual role as Palouse superintendent and principal.

Dingman officially takes over as superintendent for Palouse July 1, but will also continue to serve as superintendent at Oakesdale.

He indicated that the principal search committee will make a decision April 24 or 25, and Dingman will recommend the selected candidate to the Palouse school board at their April 26 meeting.

The new principal will start July 1 when Fox officially retires.

The search process for Palouse began in March when Dingman met with teachers individually and gathered input at a full staff meeting and two community nights.

He asked for people to give him a list of qualities that they would like to have in a new principal.

The lists from each group were similar, said Dingman.
