Police in Sanford, Fla., arrested George Zimmerman on second-degree murder charges for the high-profile shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February. Zimmerman had not been charged because of the state’s “stand your ground” laws.

California authorities denied parole to mass murderer Charles Manson in his 12th, and likely last, bid for freedom. Now 77, Manson was deemed by the parole board to not have made any efforts to rehabiltiate himself. He is eligible for parole in another 15 years.
