Wes and Jen Claassen and Bo, 15, and Lauren, 12, happily announce they are now a family of seven. Last Thursday, Superior Court Judge Frazier signed the adoption papers for Hunter, 10, Paige, 6, and Ben, 2, to officially be Claassens.
Guests at the Dick and Helen Appel home for Easter were Phil Appel, Spokane; Eric and Shannon Appel, Connor, Christopher, Sarah, Kyle and Sidney, Dusty; Caroline and Rob Kunkle, Zack, Kade, Elly and Luciene, Pullman; Neil Appel, Josh, Noemi and Isaac, Dusty; Lisa and Travis Frei, Miriam, Rachel and Emma, Colfax; and Sue and Joe Lynch, Pullman. Lisa Frei and family, Caroline Kunkle and family and Sue and Joe Lynch were at the Appel home the previous week to help Helen after her knee surgery.
Easter weekend, Larry and Di Brink and Joan Myrick went to the Tri-Cities where they celebrated Easter, Kevin Brink’s birthday and attended the dedication of Kevin and Amber Brink’s youngest child, Nicholas James, at church that morning.
Friday and Saturday before Easter, the peach trees were in full bloom at Penawawa as the family of Shirley Eggers gathered at Warm Springs Ranch. Several participated in a spring clean-up day and celebrated Janet Eggers’ birthday. Attendees included the hostess Shirley Eggers, George and Penawawa; Madge Griner, Mead; Terry and Janet Eggers, Sandpoint; Michael, Leia and Garnet Placke, Moscow; Mike and Patsy Kromm, George; and Fran Jones and Bryan and Emelie Jones, Dusty.
Shirley Eggers April 11 welcomed her second great-grandchild to the family. Calvin Eugene was born on his grandmother Janet Eggers’ birthday to Michael and Leia Placke of Moscow. He joins a sister, Garnet.
The Parsonage Bed and Breakfast was the location of the annual mini-reunion of the LaCrosse High School class of 1979. Reliving days of yore were Kristal Krom Kirpes, Colton; Sheri Shaffer Hatley, Oakesdale; Paula Morris Meyer, Pullman; Doreen Broeckel Riedner, Genesee, and Denise Broeckel Kendall, Tacoma. They were joined Sunday morning for breakfast by Doreen and Denise’s father, Oscar Broeckel, and Sheri’s mother, Darlene Shaffer.
Last week Tuesday, four members of the Dusty B.B. Club, Rita Ackerman, Dianne Appel, Karen Broeckel and Diane Monson, toured the Hopkins Ridge wind turbine farm outside Dayton.
Officers for next year were elected during lunch at the Wineheart Cafe.
President will be Diane Monson; Vice-President, Dianne Appel; Secretary, Fran Maki; and Treasurer, Karen Broeckel.
Helen Appel, Fran Maki and Jane Aune will be on the Program committee and Dianne Appel and Rita Ackerman are the Hospitality committee.
Helen Appel is in charge of the scrapbook and Karen Broeckel will handle cards and flowers.
Rita Ackerman is in charge of e-mail communication.
The next meeting will be the Guest Luncheon at the Jones Schoolhouse on the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds on Wednesday, May 9, at noon.
Tuesday, May 8, members will meet at the schoolhouse at 9:00 a.m.
to clean up and set up for the luncheon.
Members are to have the numbers of guests they’ll bring to the luncheon to Fran Maki by May 4.
The program for the luncheon will be presented by Fran Jones on the History of the Jones Family.
Next weekend, April 21 and 22, the Alkali Creek Ranch will hold a horse sale of all varieties of horses. Previewing of the horses will take place Saturday morning in the arena on the Dale and Vicki Broeckel/Kim Gustafson farm. The sale will begin at noon on Sunday. Food will be available for purchase. All spectators and bidders are welcome.
