Jazz band brings home first-place trophy

Members of the Colfax High School jazz band show the first-place trophy they won Saturday at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

Under the direction of Mike Morgan, they placed first place in Division 3 which included eight schools with enrollment up to 600.

Colfax has competed at the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival for 18 years and also won titles in 1997 and 2004.

Second place was awarded to Astoria High School and third to North Bend High School, both of Oregon.

Outstanding soloists awards went to Mark Black, baritone saxophone, and to Sam Dailey and Kasey Johnson, trumpets.
