The annual May Day celebration will be Saturday in Garfield.
Taking place in and near downtown, the day includes a parade, fun run, crafts, a petting zoo, cakewalk, silent auction, raffle and even a bouncy castle.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. with the kiddie parade first. Entries are open for all, according to Chris Cochran, May Day committee member.
The parade will be followed by kids games such as a sack race and egg toss at Dick Kriebel’s grass lot two blocks off Main Street.
Events of the morning include a Boy Scout breakfast at school followed by a fun run at 8 a.m.
May Day also includes a farmer’s market, plant sale and sub sandwich lunch, all taking place at the Legion Building.
The former Garfield restaurant, recently repaired after winter water damage, will be open for an afternoon of pie and coffee to benefit Garfield Parks and Recreation. Soup, salad and bread will also be served to benefit Seedlings Day Care.
A silent auction will benefit the Garfield Community Association and feature kids baskets, games, cooking baskets, gardening items and more.
Craft , plant and food vendors will adorn Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“There’s a little bit of everything,” Cochran said.
A year’s worth of desserts made by local baker Darlene Perkins will be raffled off.
She will make the treats and deliver them to the winner’s door once per month.
Any interested craft vendors may register at 9 a.m. The cost is $10. All vendors are asked to bring their own table.
The annual LaDow Grange spring plant sale will be at the American Legion/Grange Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a Farmers' Market in the hall with arts, crafts, plants, and produce will be in operaton. Vendors are still welcomed.
The Grange plant sale will continue through June 30 with hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
