Palouse Food Bank grows, fourth distribution set June 27

The new Palouse Food Bank is seeking more volunteers following a 12 percent increase in food given out at their fourth distribution.

Organizers at the Palouse Community Center May 23 handed out 2,500 pounds of food, including 90-dozen eggs, fresh pears, onions, apples and artichokes. Also distributed were fresh chicken along with bread, pancake mix and boxes of canned fruits and vegetables.

“It’s growing,” said co-founder Annette Klover. “The food is available and we can get more. We’re here for the long haul.”

The items come from Second Harvest out of Spokane as well as from general donations.

Co-Founder Amy Browse said that organizers would like to see more donations of peanut butter, jelly, canned meats and personal care products such as toothpaste and diapers.

Anyone with a garden is also encouraged to donate produce.

The next distribution will be June 27 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Palouse Community Center.

For more information or to volunteer, call Browse at Palouse, or check the web site: Palousefoodbank.org.
