Six seniors get farewell at Colfax softball dinner

Six Colfax High School softball seniors received a farewell last Thursday night at the team potluck dinner. Departing the scene were Lauren Moore, Amy Hickman, Erin Cox, Kaysha Lyman, Abby Muir and Samantha Pearson. Coach Terry Eng said the four-year career span for this year’s seniors marks a new record for Colfax with 76 wins.

Pitcher Amy Hickman set a new career mark with 50 wins. She struck out 335 batters in the last two years and her career mark probably topped 500. Hickman walked 155 batters in 65 games, an average of about 2.5 per game.

The Colfax varsity this year finished with a 17-7 record. Scoring for the season was 263 v. 113.

The team won the league campaign and again qualified for the state 2B playoffs at Yakima. They finished out the year with a 2-2 mark at state which was again short of a trophy round.

The team batting average finished at .351 vs. an opponents average of .242.

Coach Eng presented varsity awards to the six seniors, junior Rachel Robinson; sophomores Kasey Cloaninger, Taylor Larsen and Scoops Hahn, and freshmen Amara Huber, Erica Eng, Andra Hamilton and Kori Goodwin.

Coach Eng awarded custom pink trophies to senior captains Hickman and Lauren Moore.

Jayvee Coach Lynnea Vantrease presented junior varsity certificates to her team. The jayvee team finished with a 10-2 record with the two losses to Lakeside’s AA division jayvees.

All the wins were booked under the 15-run rule.

Junior varsity certificates were presented to Kim Hinnenkamp, Kasey Cloaninger, Erica Eng, Carolyn Knaak, Kindra Kneale, Alison MacDonald, Kelly Ward, Rachel Hardie, Amara Huber, Sarah Appel, Katie Largent, Kori Goodwin, Jolee Aeschliman, Andra Hamilton, Beckah Kraut, Ashante Erickson, and Roxanne Allenbach.

Appel and Allenbach played on the team as eighth graders under a new WIAA rule which allows grade school players to compete in high school when team turnout drops.
