Patriots book rough series after Yakima tourney trip

After booking a 3-1 run at the Bob Haggart memorial tournament at Selah, the Pullman Patriots Legion team returned to the home territory for a 1-3 mix-up with the Northeast 49ers in the senior Legion League.

The NE club nipped the Patriots twice in Spokane Tuesday night, 3-2 and 6-3 after booking a split at Bailey-Brayton field on Monday night.

The series left the Pats 2-3 in league play.

Northeast scored all three of their runs in the second inning and held off the Patriots for the first win at Spokane Tuesday. The locals took the loss after out-hitting the Northeast 49ers.

In the second game, Northeast scored three in the third and three in the fifth on the way to the 6-2 win. Each team finished with nine hits with Jackson Webb tagging three hits with a pair of doubles for the Patriots.

Monday at Bailey-Brayton the 49ers took the first game 4-3, and the Patriots took the second round 3-1 with Lance Lindgren tagging a RBI triple to break a 1-1 tied in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lindgren then scored an a sacrifice fly by Matt Peterson.

Each team had four hits in the nightcap.

The game was scoreless until the fifth when each side scored a run for the 1-1 lockup.

In the first game Monday, the Pats pegged a 3-1 lead after the third inning, but the 49ers tied it with two in the top of the fourth. The NE team took the win with one more run in the seventh.

Pullman took the loss despite seven hits against NE with Druffel and Jackson Webb each tagging two hits.

In the run at Selah, the Pats booked a 2-0 Saturday with a 6-2 win over the Spokane Blue Devils and a 7-5 edge over Yakima Valley.

The Pats booked 13 hits in the first game with Druffel tagging three. Bricyn Abdul, Dusty Lyons, DePaul Blunt and Johnson each had two hits.

In the 7-5 win over Yakima the first day, Blunt was credited with the game winning single in the top of the seventh.

Robert McIntosh and Lyons each paired doubles in the game.

Mason VanLith and Justin Cillay pitched the win for the Patriots despite 12 hits by the Yakima offense.

After the 2-0 first day, the Pats booked a split the second day at the tourney with Yakima Valley crunching 9-2 win in what turned out to be the championship game.

Lefty Patrick Jacobs had the start in the last game and Hunter Redinger relieved him in the sixth.

Nolan Johnson had two of the three Pats’ hits.

In the first game Sunday, the Patriots posted a 9-8 lead after the fifth inning against the Blue Devils and scoring stopped over the last two innings. Abdul was credited with keeping the lid on for the Patriots after going to the mount in the fifth.
