Serving Whitman County since 1877
Two great-grandchildren of James A. Perkins were among the attendees at the 40th edition of the Whitman County Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social Sunday at the House.
Cousins Eric Stoltz of Portland and Cindy Mueller of Salem were among celebrants at the social. Stoltz gave a short talk on memories of his childhood visits to the house where his grandparents, Sumner and Ethel, resided. They were the parents of his mother, Catherine Stoltz. He noted one of his boyhood discoveries was nettles which he encountered on the hillside above the cabin.
Mueller is the daughter of Louis and Marlys.
Ethel, who died in 1970, was the last member of the family to reside at the house which was later acquired by the historical society.
Members of the Snake River Six band led a special “Happy Birthday” rendition for Bernadine Pyburn Whitmore who celebrated her 100th birthday with family members at the social.
Another entertainment feature was a vocal solo performance by Lindsay Webber, Colfax Distinguished Young Woman who will compete at the state event at Pullman in August.
