Serving Whitman County since 1877
Lamont
Friends of the Lamont Library with Ruth Simpson at the helm conducted a book sale in the new Lamont Library June 22-24. It included a bake sale and a raffle. Gale Mann won the grand prize, an Afghan and hand crochet slippers.
Proceeds will be used to finish the plumbing, electrical wiring and the framing in the building. They are planning a spaghetti feed around the end of July to further the work in hopes of opening the library in November. Grants and donations will help with the completion.
Hundreds of used books of every subject were volunteered in the sale and sold for a very low price. Some new books given by individuals will be used in the new library. It took two people 10 hours to get the books unloaded and on tables in the building.
Buyers came from Harrington, Medical Lake, Sprague, Ritzville and Lamont. Other helpers during the three days were Stephanie Kanzler, Theresa Simpson, Ruth Simpson, Pam Bownes and high school students.
Free hot lunches will be served Monday through Thursday at the Lamont Community Center.
