Spare Parts will return to Tekoa

Spare Parts, a versatile five-member band from Spokane, will return to the Empire Theatre in Tekoa Saturday, July 7 at 7 p.m. Their wide-ranging repertoire includes songs from pop, rock, folk and country genres and spans from the 1950s up to contemporary. Because of their tight four-part harmonies and expert instrumentation, the group performs many much-loved songs that other bands do not attempt.

Joel Johnston, who plays guitar, bass, lap steel and percussion, got his start in traditional Country & Western music. Mandolin and guitar player Scott Randall’s influences are heavily 60s and 70s Pop/Folk/Rock, while bass player and bass singer Kim Davis leans toward Country Rock. Nick Herman will likely replace Kevin Gardner on lead guitar because Kevin is out of the country. Herman is well versed in Jazz, Blues, Country and Pop/Rock. Drummer Rick Westrick, who plays with the Spokane Symphony, can also play any of the above genres and is also a big fan of Western Swing.

“Our experience with the Empire [last year] was one of the most memorable playing experiences we’ve ever had. We love the theatre setting,” Johnston said. He went on to say the Empire’s acoustics made it “almost like a religious experience.”

Admission prices will be $12 for adults, $5 for students. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
