FSA seeks candidates for county committee

The USDA Farm Service Agency is accepting nominations for the Whitman County Committee until Aug. 1.

The three-member committee consists of farmers and ranchers elected by their peers to administer farm programs and provide a link between producers and the FSA. The committee also hears producers’ appeals of agency determinations.

The position up for election this year is for area 1, which is roughly the western third of Whitman County from Central Ferry and includes the towns of LaCrosse, Endicott and St. John, among others. Candidates must live in the area and must be eligible to vote in the county election. They must also participate in at least one FSA program and be of legal voting age.

Members serve three-year terms. Meetings are usually held every other month. Committee members are compensated for official duty hours.

Information about the election and nomination forms can be obtained by calling the Colfax office of the FSA or through the agency’s web site. Nomination forms must be submitted to the local FSA office.
