Serving Whitman County since 1877
The fourth and purported final Palouse Home and Garden Tour is complete.
Although, following a large turnout June 23 and record proceeds, it may not be the final one after all.
A total of $5,400 was raised on a day which organizers ran out of tickets.
“It’s the last one for probably five years,” said Pat Flansburg, board member for Whitman County Historical Society, which put on the event to benefit their Holy Trinity Chapel in Palouse.
“Most likely we will do another one. We have several homes we would have liked to have on the tour. Maybe those people will be ready and willing by then.”
Flansburg estimated between 275 and 300 people participated in the tour. The record $5,400 in proceeds tops a previous high of $3,200 from three earlier tours.
“It was a big success in all ways. And it was a nice day,” said Flansburg with a laugh. “It didn’t rain and there was a 70 percent chance it was going to.”
Proceeds will go to repair work on the Holy Trinity Chapel’s 117-year-old stained glass windows, along with installation of new cedar shingles on two sides of the building.
The Historical Society only has enough funds for two sides to start.
“We want to thank all the people who came,” said Flansburg. “We had an awful lot from Spokane and a lot from the small towns around here.”
The Holy Trinity Chapel was purchased by a group of local citizens in 2003 and donated to the Historical Society.
