Callie-Rae Marker of Colfax, left, placed 16th in goat tying in the finals at the junior high school rodeo nationals June 25-30 in Gallup, N.M. A seventh grader, she is the daughter of JD and Valerie Marker of Colfax. She was among 20 entrants to qualify for the final go-round after getting top average scores in two preliminary go-rounds.
Scout Yochum of Clarkston placed fifth overall in break-away roping. Also a seventh grader, she is the daughter of Trevor Yochum and Jamo Rynearson of Clarkston.
Jacey Johnson of Rosalia and Tommi Sue Swannack of Sprague also qualified to compete at the nationals with the Washington High School team.
Team members qualify by standings in the fall and spring campaigns and at the state finals. Top four finishers overall can advance to nationals. Texas, which usually dominates the national event, prevailed again for the team win in the national event.
