Pats book 3-1 home stint to top .500 in league run

Pullman Patriots returned to the Spokane Senior Legion campaign Monday and Tuesday and booked a 3-1 stint at WSU’s Bailey-Brayton Field.

Tuesday, they stopped the Northstars 10-0 and 4-3, and Monday they split a pair with the Spokane Blue Devils. The stint left the club at 10-8 in the league campaign before another pair set for Wednesday against the same Northstars club in Spokane.

As of Wednesday morning, the Pats expected to play in the third-fourth slot in the league playoffs Saturday in Spokane at A K Jackson Field at 3 p.m. The league has a stack of makeup games to clear off the books before the entry lineup firms up. The 49ers and the Bandits now look like the top two finishers in the league run.

The Pats played the four games at Pullman after finishing out the Coeur d’Alene Wooden Bat tourney at 2-3.

Tuesday against the Northstars Jackson Webb took the 10-0 shutout win by pitching a one hitter over five innings. Thirteen hits by the Patriots fueled the offense for the shutout. The Pats scored seven runs over the last two innings. Lance Lindgren and DePaul Blunt each booked three RBIs. Webb and Bricyn Abdul each booked a double and triple, and Jeremy Druffel tagged a triple.

The format changed in the second game with the ‘stars staking out a 3-2 edge after three frames and holding it for two innings. The Pats tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth and then put it over the top, 4-3, with Druffel getting the hero hit to score. Justin Cillay and Wyatt Edman for the ‘stars each allowed four hits in the close battle.

Monday, the Patriots notched an 8-7 win over the Blue Devils at Pullman by scoring five runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth. The Devils came to life in the fifth with a four-run blast to finish within one run.

Dusty Lyons had the start in the first game for the Patriots and Mason VanLith relieved him. The Patriots booked 11 hits in the first game with Webb pairing doubles and Matt Peterson and Lance Lingren each getting two hits with a double.

In the second game of the league matchup, Pullman again staked an early lead, 5-4 after three frames, but the Devils broke out for four runs in the top of the fourth on the way to a 12-7 win.

The two league teams put up 26 hits in the second game. Jeremy Druffel had three hits and Webb again paired doubles.

Pullman committed four errors in the closer.

Friday at Coeur d’Alene the Patriots closed out their 2-3 campaign in the Wooden Bat Tournament with an 8-0 shutout over Glacier of Montana.

Matt Peterson pegged a two-hitter and fanned 13 Glacier batters for the dominating win.

Bricyn Abdul shut it down by bumping the Pullman lead up to eight runs with a single that scored two more Pats’ runs in the sixth.

The Patriots went into the closeout game after posting a 1-1 mark in the Thursday games at Coeur d’Alene

They bowed 4-7 to Okotoks which rolled out a 6-0 lead after three innings. The team from Alberta out-hit the Pats 6-4.

DePaul Blunt started the first game Thursday, and Lance Lindgren relieved him in the fourth.

Pullman scored four runs in the fourth inning with catcher Bricyn Abdul tagging a based loaded triple.

Each side had three errors.

The Thursday win was a 14-10 decision over Eagle. The Patriots at one point had a 14-2 lead on the Idaho club.
