Hospital Highlights

The need for blood doesn’t take a summer vacation! The summer months traditionally reflect a lower turnout of donors due in part to high schools and colleges being out of session. They account for almost 35 percent of all blood donations. This combined with the fact that donors are busy with summer activities, creates a greater need during the season.

As the sole supplier of blood and blood products for Whitman Hospital and Medical Center, Inland Northwest Blood Center has the potential to save three lives with each blood donation.

Blood products may be used for a variety of patients including those with trauma, cancer, or blood disorders. Regardless of the reason for blood products, the need is year-round.

In order to prevent shortages and meet the ongoing needs of the patients in our region, WHMC’s Blood Drive will be next Thursday, Aug. 30 from 9 to 12:30. Everyone who presents to donate can also get their own 2012 Summer T-shirt. Walk-ins are welcome. Residents make an appointment online at http://www.inbcsaves.org using promo code whitmanhospital.

Those not able to make the blood drive at the hospital, can mark their calendar for the Colfax community blood drive Sept. 25 from 2:30 to 5:30 at the Colfax Library.
