Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Garden of the Month award for July went to Dave and Cathy St. John’s garden just a few short miles south of Rosalia. The selection committee reported several memory gardens within the garden with an ongoing pond project.
Billy Willy’s pond, a memory pond for Cathy’s dad, has six koi and two bottom feeders to keep the algae out. Several water garden plants are planted around the pond.
Big Don’s rock garden for Dave’s dad has his original milking stool and bucket along with two plows incorporated into the design.
Wind chimes were collected by Cathy’s mother so she has very carefully arranged them throughout the garden. A portion of the rose garden is called “Grandma Shirley’s perfume garden” with emphasis on fragrant roses.
The family’s patio is sited to provide a view the gardens and the Palouse countryside.
Cathy told the selection committee she is thrilled to have their garden selected by the garden club.
One more selection for this season will take place in mid September. The selection committee changes with each month.
