Threshing bee will honor departed crew

The Palouse Empire Threshing committee will again stage their annual vintage threshing bee on Labor Day, Sept. 3, to start fair week.

Steam power will be used to operate a stationary thresher and a push header with a team which will be used to cut the field just west of the fairground. A no-host lunch will be served by Jenny Meyer of the Endicott store.

The threshing bee committee plans to honor deceased members of the organization who founded the group and have supported it over the years.

An independent television producer is expected to be on the scene for an eventual show on RFD-TV. The production will be dedicated to the group’s early founders.

Among those honored will be Jack Ryan, shown above with his team, Jim and Jess, at the fairground watering tank in 2007. A lifetime farmer in the Union Flat area, Mr. Ryan died July 17 at the age of 88.

A posterboard in tribute to Ryan and others who contributed to the threshing bee will be located on the cook shack at the bee.
