Eric Werner of Wrangell, Alaska, pegged the fastest time of the day in the last elimination round Saturday at Webb’s Slough to take the super modified class in the second round stop of the sprint boats at St. John. Werner, a pilot, and Jana Horton clocked a 58.195 over the tight slough course to edge out Dennis Hughes and Matia Haskey in the Overkill boat in the last round. The two class leaders swapped top times in the first two elim rounds at the slough.
Local racer Scott Ackerman advanced to the final four cut and finished in third place in the super modified class.
Hughes and Haskey led the class after the four qualification rounds which saw both of the leaders cut down their times as the afternoon session advanced.
The super-mod class led the entry sheet with 12 boats for the Saturday races.
Rick and Richie Henderson of Harrisburg, Ore., in their Sling Shot boat topped the A-400 class with a 64.73 in the final elim round. They topped the Live Wire boat raced by Paul Gahr of Sequim who pegged the top time in the final four elim rounds but booked a 66.106 behind the Hendersons in the last round.
Kyle Patrick, running with Ackerman as his navigator, led the qualifying rounds in the A-400 class and hit the top time of the day for the class at 63.512 in his last qualifying round.
Patrick and Ackerman rolled the boat in the final four round to bounce out of the competition.
Nine boats were listed on the A-400.
Todd Gary and Corky Lockner of Molalla, Ore. took the super boat class with a 66.497. The super boats started the elims at the final four stage with Lockner posting the lone finish.
Cory Johnson and Gary McNeill of Maple Ridge, B.C., again made a power run through the Super Boat class and posted the best overall time of the day, a 57.353 in their last qualifying round, but didn’t peg a time in the elim rounds.
