Palouse Food Bank

Volunteers at Palouse Food Bank Aug. 29 gave out almost 3,000 pounds of fresh food during its seventh distribution since it was started earlier this year. The distribution included corn, watermelon, asparagus, apples, oranges, potatoes, lettuce, cabbage, yogurt, local eggs, home-grown tomatoes and zucchini.

Frozen chicken and a supply of locally donated canned goods, pasta and bread were also given away.

Palouse Food Bank provides supplementary, nutritious food to more than 12 percent of the city’s residents.

Also, USDA Commodities are given out at the Food Bank distributions.

The commodities and food brought down from Second Harvest of Spokane are available to all Palouse area residents who live within zip code 99161.

Anyone in Palouse who may be interested is asked to bring their extra garden produce to the next Palouse Food Bank distribution, which will be Sept. 26 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the Palouse Community Center on Main Street. Produce may be dropped off Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. or Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the center

Food donation bins are also located at McLeod Market and Needful Things in Palouse.

Palouse Food Bank is sponsored by Council on Aging with additional support from the Caritas Fund of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Pullman. Palouse Food Bank works with WSU’s Center for Civic Engagement, Palouse Cares, Project ACCESS, Garfield Food Bank, Pullman Child Welfare, WSU’s Sigma Kappa and the Community of Palouse.
