Colton’s Wildcats booked the lone win for the lineup of county eight-man teams which booked an early start last Friday on the new grid season. Colton out-paced Wilbur-Creston 66-40 on the Wildcats field after posting a 40-16 lead at the half.
In other action Potlatch Loggers defeated Garfield/Palouse, Odessa/Harrington topped the LW Tigercats, and the SJE Eagles were turned back at Wellpinit.
COLTON’S Jake Straughan, who moved into the QB slot vacated by his brother, threw for seven TDs in the 66-40 win over Wilbur/Creston in the season opener at Colton. Nick Robertson snagged the first TD pass in the first quarter for an 8-0 lead. In the second frame Colton booked four more scores to take control of the game at halftime.
Dillon Frank snagged two TD passes with the second one going for 40 yards, and Robertson reeled in two more.
Straughan and Robertson each scored on breakout runs, with Straughan going 65 yards and Robertson rolling for 75.
Straughan’s pass tally was 12 -20 for 286 yards. Frank finished with four catches for 104 yards.
The Wildcats will host Salmon River Friday in another home game. The Savages will arrive after posting at 42-12 win over Prairie to bump their record to 1-1 on the Idaho side of the line.
LaCROSSE/WASHTUCNA Tigercats came alive in the second half to rattle the visiting Odessa/Harrington team at Washtucna Friday, but the guests pulled it out in the last quarter of a 44-20 win.
The Tigercats trailed 6-28 with 7:33 left in the third quarter after Titan QB Jared King scored on a sweep.
LW came alive with a fourth down pass play from Joey Guske to Sam Harder for 23 yards to keep their next drive alive. Sawyer Hostetler then ran it to the two-yard line and scored with 2:47 left in the third quarter.
The Tigercats came back with an on-side kick and scored with Hostetler going into the end zone on the second play.
The pass for two points failed, but the Tigercats had two TDs in 19 seconds of game time to cut the early Titan lead to 20-28.
The guests’ offense came back with King hitting Cade Weber in the corner to bump the score to 34-20 with 10:37 left.
The Tigercats launched another drive with Hostetler making big gains, but it ended in a 4th-and-35 stallout. Odessa took possession with 7:30 left and scored one more time.
Next round for the Tigercats will be a visit by Kootenai of Harrison to LaCrosse Friday. They will arrive with a 1-1 mark after bowing to Lakeside of Plummer last week.
GARFIELD/PALOUSE broke out to an early lead in their season opener Friday at Palouse, but the Potlatch Loggers came back for three straight scores for a 30-24 lead at the half. They then shut out the Vikings in the second half and went on to a 44-24 win.
The Loggers are now 2-0 on the new season.
Anthony Floyd, who snagged a Logger fumble, scored the first TD on a short run, and Kevin Knauff broke loose on the next series for a 55-yard escape to put the Vikings up 12-0 early.
Potlatch offense then kicked into gear with Davis Amos hitting two TDs passes and Drew Magallon scoring on a short run. Magallon finished with a 14-156 night rushing.
Riley Hodges scored the last two Viking TDs with the last one coming off a 78-yard kickoff return.
ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT sustained a 72-20 defeat on the road at Wellpinit for their opener Friday. The hosts rolled up 28 points in the first quarter and scored three times before the Eagles got on the scoreboard with Gabe Davis hitting Matt Gonzales on a 60-yard pass play.
The Eagles scored two more TDs in the second quarter with Davis booking a 10-yard run and Wade West scoring on a five-yarder.
The Eagles, who made the trip north without all their players on the active roster, were shut out in the second half.
