Serving Whitman County since 1877
Palouse Days, the annual one-day event, will take over Main Street Saturday. Events include the signature airplane ping pong ball drop, egg toss, duck race, downtown parade, and the 30th annual Car Show.
It will all start the night before with a Palouse Days kickoff party at the Palouse Tavern featuring live music by Tony Burke and Friends. Saturday morning will begin at 6 a.m. when batter hits the griddle for the Lions Club Pancake breakfast while the Xenodican Club Book Sale (including funnel cakes) starts at 8 a.m. at the Palouse Library. Also at 8 a.m., a buffet breakfast will begin at Palouse Tavern.
The 5k and 10k fun run/walks get underway at 8 a.m. at Bagott Motors on Main Street.
At 9 a.m. the annual car show will launch at the park. The car show normally brings entrants from all over the Inland Empire and has become the largest automotive show in the county.
Following the parade, the new Palouse royalty will be crowned before the Ping Pong Ball Drop and Egg Toss. Kids’ activities will then start on Main Street, complete with a bouncy house and more, while the Lions Club will serve hamburgers at the Block Building downtown beginning at 10 a.m.
All morning, ducks will be for sale for the noon whistle Duck Race on the Palouse River at Bridge Street.
A Cake Walk will follow, sponsored by the newly reformed Palouse Grange No. 177.
At 4 p.m. in front of Palouse Tavern, four-person teams will line up for the Barley Bar Relay.
Palouse Days will wrap up at night with the sound of guitars and drums from Scott Thompson and “Blue Highway,” playing from 8 p.m. to midnight at Palouse Tavern.
