Artist series resumes at library

Colfax Arts Council’s Meet the Artist season will help kick off Colfax Harvest Hullabaloo with the Whitman Sampler quilters at 7 p.m. in the library on Thursday, Oct. 4. This will be the seventh season for Meet the Artist.

Charli Hochsprung and Judy Imler of Colfax will bring some of their quilts and a lot of their expertise and give folks an opportunity to go downstairs to get a sneak preview of the Whitman Samplers quilt show that will be on display throughout the Hullabaloo.

Hochsprung, former fabric store owner in Colfax, said they plan an informal session where both she and Imler will bring about half a dozen of their more interesting quilts to show and discuss. She said they both are traditional quilters, using familiar patterns but with their own touch.

The show downstairs will feature quilts by members of Whitman Samplers and also by other quilters, many of whom are from LaCrosse.

They will also encourage the audience at Meet the Artist to participate in buying tickets for a raffle to raise money for the Meals on Wheels Christmas stocking project.

“Any proceeds will go back to the community,” Hochsprung said. She noted that the combination of an introduction at Meet the Artist and the guild quilt show will ultimately benefit the community.

The quilt being raffled was made by Sherry Brouse, Margo Balzarini and Myrna Teade, all of Colfax and all well known for their quilting expertise. The actual drawing for the raffle will be around Christmas time, Hochsprung said.

The Meet the Artist series is sponsored by Colfax Arts Council and Whitman County Library is free to the public with programs on the first Thursday of each month through the spring, winter and fall at 7 p.m. at the library. Topics range from quilting and painting to writing, theater and music. The format is casual, allowing the public to enjoy a variety of arts and meet and talk to our regional artists, according to Debi Anderson, CAC president.
