Sally Ousley joined the reporting staff of the Whitman County Gazette this week. Born and raised in Colfax, she is a member of the 1974 Colfax High School class. She attended Fort Wright College in Spokane and earned a bachelor’s degree in human services in 1978. After working in Colfax and part-time at WSU, Ousley married and moved to Minnesota. She began her newspaper career there, working for two Minnesota weekly newspapers.
She moved to Tillamook, Ore., and worked for a weekly newspaper for three years. Ousley moved again to Longview, and worked for two weekly newspapers as a reporter and editor and then for The Daily News in Longview as a reporter for 11 years. She also worked for two other publishing companies in Longview.
Ousley lived with her mother, Wilma, until her mother developed Alzheimer’s Disease. She is now in a Longview nursing home in the last stages of Alzheimer’s. Ousley’s sister, Martha, resides in Longview and is a teacher at St. Rose Catholic School.
“It’s so good to be home,” she said.
