Second graders plant trees for Arbor Day

Colfax city arborist Molly Rice, right, helps second graders from Jennings Elementary School plant a tree in Schmuck Park for the city’s annual Arbor Day observance last Thursday, Sept. 27. Students took turns shoveling dirt back around the two Kentucky Coffee trees that were planted near the large picnic shelter at the north end of the park. Councilwoman Jeanette Solimine, Parks Superintendent Steve Larkin and Rice represented the city at the event. Jennings has 51 second graders. Teachers are Peggy Kehne, Carol Myers and Bev Stubbers.
