Colfax V-ball netters stack four NE wins

After stacking three Bi-County match wins in five days, the Colfax volleyball team will travel north for their annual test against some of the state’s best teams in the Spokane crossover tourney. The Bulldogs will be among 64 teams in the scramble for the title which will be played on a best-of-three game format.

Colfax Saturday will start with pool play at Ferris with matches against Tahoma at 8 a.m., Wilbur-Creston at 10 a.m. and Ferris at noon.

The crossover will then breakout according to pool results with the top qualifiers at Ferris, number-twos at Lewis & Clark, number threes at Rogers and number fours at Shadle Park.

Each of the playoff brackets will have 16 teams.

The Bulldogs’ power start in the league race last week included match wins over LRS Broncos last Thursday, at Northwest Christian Saturday and at Mary Walker of Springdale Tuesday. All were three-game match wins.

Tuesday at Springdale, the Bulldogs won 25-5 25-17 and 25-13. After a 25-5 romp in the first game Tuesday, Colfax fell behind in the second game with the Chargers posting an 8-3 lead. Colfax pulled it out with Sidney Huber running a string of seven serve points to put Colfax on top, 13-9.

Kindra Kneale hit two kills and a block during Huber’s stint at the line.

Colfax took the third game 25-13 with Tayor Larsen hitting four straight aces and Amara Huber hitting two.

Larsen finished with six aces, six kills and five digs.

Amara Huber hit 11 kills and Deanna Aeschliman and Kneale had three kills each.

Kneale and Sidney Huber each had two blocks in the win and Rachel Robinson booked six digs.

Saturday at Northwest Christian the Bulldogs stopped the Crusaders 25-12 25-14 and 25-11.

“Our serving Saturday was very tough, and I think it got to them,” Coach Sue Doering commented.

Colfax servers hit 13 aces at the Crusaders with Amelie Bruya, Nicole Sheer and Robinson each hitting three. Larsen hit nine kills and Sheer and Amara and Sidney Huber each added six.

Cassie Vorderbrueggen had nine digs.

At home Thursday against the LRS Broncos Colfax stacked another three-game win, 25-14 25-15 and 25-20 over the Broncos.

Bruya lead the back line game with a 27 for 27 serving with seven aces. Amara Huber backed that up with a 21 for 22 with an ace.

Larsen hit 14 kills against the Broncos, and Sheer hit 11. Bruya also had 29 assists and Sidney Huber had nine digs.

After the grinding Spokane adventure Saturday, the Bulldogs will host Liberty Tuesday when they resume the league schedule.
