LaCrosse/Washtucna Tigercats and Liberty Christian again stacked up dominant wins to stay on top of the SE Eights football race in the fifth week of the season. Both are now 2-0 in the league race.

The Tigercats Friday night powered past Colton 62-20 in the homecoming game at LaCrosse, and the Patriots crunched Garfield/Palouse 62-6 on their home field.

The Patriots are now 5-0 on the season.

Other league action saw Sunnyside Christian bounce back with a 42-28 win over Pomeroy, and Touchet shut out SJE 70-0 to join a lineup in the mid-league ranks with a 1-1 records.

LaCROSSE/ Washtucna Coach Jeff Nelson said the Tigercats rolled out their ground control game plan to burn up the possession time during Friday’s homecoming game against air-minded Colton.

The Tigercats’ defense also booked a solid job of containing Colton air game.

Defensive end Jonathon Holdren led the Tigercats on defense with six sacks on Colton QB Jake Straughan. Holdren was also credited with another eight tackles.

Sawyer Hostetler keyed the ground game with 29 carries for 276 yards, a high mark for the league round. He scored six times for LW.

QB Joey Guske put the ball in the air just six times and hit four to top 100 yards.

Colton’s Wildcats, who have 20 players on their roster, sustained several injuries during the game Friday and will face a tough assignment when Touchet rolls to Colton.

LaCrosse/Washtucna kept the offense on track despite rolling up a stack of penalty calls in the first half.

The Tigercats will travel to Pomeroy for this week’s league round.

Coach Nelson expects both teams to favor the ground attack with Pirate QB Ryan Smith as a player to watch.

GARFIELD/ Palouse and St. John/Endicott will mix it up at Palouse in Friday’s league round. The Vikings will aim to get back on track after being hammered by the LC Patriots 62-6 last week. last week.

TOUCHET booked 24 points in the first quarter against the Eagles and had a 46-0 lead at the half to put Friday’s game on the fast clock. The Indians booked the big win after being roughed up by Liberty Christian in the previous week’s round.

Coach Gary Dorman activated his reserves in the second half with Carlos Rimcon was credited with a 7-92 night against the Eagles.

Touchet this week will visit Colton in the other league round.

The Wildcats will look to snag their first league win on the young gridiron season after two hard-fought losses to LaCrosse/Washtucna and Garfield/Palouse.
