Palouse mayor aims to reverse pay cut

The Palouse city council began a 2013 budget review in a meeting Sept. 25.

Mayor Echanove told the council they need to cut about $25,000 from the budget, noting that he hopes to restore pay levels to where they were a year ago before the city enacted a three percent pay cut because of a budget bind.

“We’ve been fine,” Echanove told council. “Well, fine’s about to go away. Let me report to you, though, the sky is not falling.”

He then proceeded to take the council through the city’s current spending status.

Echanove resumed where he left off at the following Palouse city council meeting Oct. 9.

At the next council gathering, Oct. 23, the they will go through individual line items of the budget to develop its 2013 budget.

State law requires towns to set their budget for the following year by Dec. 31.
