LACROSSE/ Washtucna Friday pegged a 66-36 win at Pomeroy in a rugged battle. The Tigercats erupted for 30 points in the last quater to nail the win.
“It was really close until the last quarter. I felt most of the game that we were close to breaking it open and we finally did it in the last quarter,” Coach Jeff Nelson commented. He didn’t figure the win was in the bag until about the last six minutes.
The Pirates were hurt by five turnovers.
Jonathon Holdren booked a 21-112 rushing night with four TDs, two on rushing and two on receptions.
Joey Guske, under orders to mix in a running game, booked a 10-81 night rushing with 8-16-139 passing.
“We worked everybody we could in the offensive picture to keep the ball going against them,” Nelson noted.
Receiver Sam Harder had a 3-42 night rushing with two scores. He also had five catches for 39 yards. Bo Rice rushed 9-47 and Alec Fleming scored a TD.
Coach Nelson sees Touchet as a team which has trended back to the wide open game dealt by former long-time coach Wayne Dickey.
TOUCHET at Colton cooked an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and then dropped 30 points on the Wildcats in the second quarter on the way to a 56-20 win.
Colton bounded back in the second quarter with Jake Straughan hitting three TD passes to sophomore Trystan Thompson. The scoring shots went for 29, 19 and 12 yards against the Touchet defense.
The other two points on the night came off a conversion pass from Straughan to Nick Robertson.
Vincente Flores, a player who rates high in the LW defensive plan for this week, scored four times against the Wildcats.
Two of those were off pass plays and another one was a 23-yard scoring return on an interception.
Coach Clark Vining and the Wildcats face another tough assignment this week when they will host the undefeated Liberty.
The Pats will travel to Colton after staking up 78 points last week in a runaway win over Sunnyside Christian on the west edge of the SE Eights campaign.
GARFIELD/ Palouse posted the other big league Friday when they dropped the SJE Eagles in the Vikings’ homecoming game at Palouse.
The Eagles and Vikings traded scores in the first quarter. The Eagles scored on a 56-yard run by Wade West. QB Gabe Davis hit Micah Selk for the two point conversion.
