Athenaeum Club exhibit features photos at library

Colfax Athenaeum Club is the subject of an exhibit now on display in the Colfax Library. The slide presentation and a bookmarks features a number of images that were digitized and archived as part of the Whitman County Rural Heritage project and can be seen on the library’s website:

Slides include images of the founders and first president of the club, the house where the club was organized, a 1902 photo of club members, club members on the 10th and 19th anniversaries and other items from the club scrapbook. A special bookmark features a photo taken of club members at the home Mrs. Adam, circa 1902.

Colfax Athenaeum Club was founded in 1895 and continues to be an active organization in the community.

Digitizing and preserving historical photos from all over Whitman County is the focus of this project. Numerous grants from the Institute of Museum and Libraries Act and local sources have provided the funding to keep this project going into its fifth year.

Whitman County Library is currently seeking historical photos of barns for an upcoming calendar and exhibit along with other photos that represent the rich history of the pioneers, families, farms, towns, churches and schools of the county.
