SE1B gridders down the home streetch

Final two rounds of SE-Eight football will feature a race for the third and last playoff slot between the LW Tigercats and the Garfield/Palouse Viking. The two clubs could decide it with a showdown battle in the last round Nov. 2 at Palouse.

Stage for the Viking/Tigercat scramble was set last week when the league’s two power clubs, undefeated Liberty Christian and Touchet extended their leads in the last round.

The Patriots, now 5-0 in the league race, will host the Tigercats Friday at Hanford High.

LaCROSSE/WASHTUCNA will take a crack at the undefeated Patriots after a 60-18 win over the SJE Eagles last week.

Coach Jeff Nelson noted the T-cats could pull off an upset at Hanford, but they will need to keep control of the ball.

Last Friday at LaCrosse, the Tigercats rolled up a 46-6 lead over the Eagles at the half and played the reserves for most of the second half.

Alec Fleming, a senior playing his first year of football, cooked for 107 yards and scored twice

Sophomore Kaese Ramos clocked in a 13-52 night in his first varsity action at tailback. Chance Rice, an other sophomore called the plays at QB in the second half.

Eagle junior Wade West returned a kickoff 95 yards for the Eagles’ score in the first half. West scored again on a 55-yard run in the third quarter.

Dakota Gehring scored the last TD on a 15-yard pass play.

GARFIELD/PALOUSE will try and keep in the hunt for a playoff after being dropped 34-6 by number-two Touchet in a daylight trip Friday to the southland. The Vikings will face a Sunnyside Christina team which was nipped on the last quarter in a seesaw battle with the Colton Wildcats last weekend.

Palouse will host the SC team, and they will need a win to close within range of the Tigercats to put a last-round showdown on the slate the following week when they host LW in the final round.

COLTON’S Nick Robertson scored his fourth TD of the night at Colton Friday n a 49-yard pass play launched by Jake Straughan .

The score sealed the 40-36 win for the Wildcats who have had a rough run in the league. .

Robertson also scored on three other pass shots by Straughan for 28. 17 and 35 yards.

Sunnyside’s Luke Wavrin scored on a 10 yard pass in the fourth quarter to put the guests on top before Straughan and Robertson hooked up for the final TD in the middle of the quarter.

Colton, now tied with Pomeroy at 1-4 in the league race, will travel to St. John/Endicott for this week’s round.
