The funeral for Edna MacPherson, 94, former co-publisher of the Palouse Republic, was at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse Monday with the Rev. Larry Veith officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse.

Mrs. McPherson died Nov. 1, 2012, at Sullivan Park Care Center in Spokane Valley where she had lived for the past four years.

Born Feb. 28, 1918, at the family ranch near Hullett, Wyo., to William and Edna Blakeman, she rode horseback to a one-room schoolhouse. After her father was elected sheriff, she lived in the county courthouse in Sundance, Wyo., where she attended high school. Upon graduation, she married Robert H. MacPherson Oct. 31, 1937. His family operated the newspaper in Sundance. They lived for a time in Sundance, then at Union, Ore., before relocating to Palouse in 1940.

They published the Palouse Republic newspaper until Robert’s death in 1966. She continued to publish the paper for a time with family assistance until the business was sold. She then worked for the R. A. Hanson Co. Later she was employed as a secretary at the Nuclear Radiation Center at Washington State University until her retirement in 1985. She continued living at Palouse until 2008.

Surviving are two sons Robert MacPherson Jr. (Serena) of Stanfield, Ore., Jeff MacPherson (Vinetta) of Spokane Valley; one daughter Lisa Kinyon (David) of Otis Orchards; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, and two brothers.

The family suggests memorial donations go to the Roy Chatters Printing Museum in Palouse.
