Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Rev. Floyd Overstreet was honored with a Quilt of Valor presentation at the veterans’ assembly at Jennings Elementary Friday. Overstreet, who is a Navy Veteran of World War II, was presented a quilt by Tami Drader, a member of the Whitman Sampler’s Guild in Colfax.
The surprise presentation was done with the assistance of Mrs. Overstreet who convinced him to attend the vets’ assembly to see a grandson participate in a flag exercise with members of Scout Troop 595.
The scouts led the flag salute and participated in retiring of the colors. Also marking the day was the Fairchild Honor Guard, students from kindergarten though the fifth grade with patriotic songs, and fifth grader Joanna Fuchs, who presented the poem, “Honor Our Military.”
Overstreet last year took a veteran honor flight to Washington DC.
