Hospital Highlights: Palouse Cares food drive

In Whitman County, 7,976 residents are food insecure. This means one in five people in the county is unsure of where the next meal will come from. In Whitman County it is estimated that more than 29 percent of people are living in poverty. The poverty level for a family of two is less than $14,580 a year and $22,056 for a family of 4.

Whitman County food banks receive funds from the WSDA Food Assistance Program and served 4,681 people in need of food last year. These people visited food banks an average of five times through the year to get nutritious foods including meats, dairy, produce and grains.

Palouse Cares is sponsoring the multi-community event to gather food donations for local food banks Dec. 1. The goal of the non-profit organization is to ensure that children on the Palouse are fed, educated, cared for, and supported. More than a third of children in our county are living in poverty.

Please support the Palouse Cares food drive Dec. 1. Volunteers will be going door-to-door to accept donations or residents can drop them off at Rosauers. Silent auction items will also be on display at Rosauers during the week prior to the event.
