It is going to be tough month.
The long predicted end of the world may be upon us.
The Mayans, those geeky ancient meso-American astronomers, ended their calendar on 12/21/12.
They either ran out of stone to carve on or they knew something we don’t. Some who have read their carvings and gliphs interpret a cataclysmic end of the world on that date. A giant alligator is supposedly going to spew water and flood the earth.
In truth, this may be of minor importance. Before the end of days, we face the fiscal cliff. Many are now saying that if agreement between the political parties is not reached by the 15th of this month, there won’t be enough time to avoid going over the edge. Going over the cliff will not be pretty and could be as bad as a giant alligator flooding the world, maybe worse.
And, then there is 12/12/12. This will be the last day of its kind this century, when the month, day and year are identical numbers. Doubt exists on just what to call this. Some suggest it is a pelendri-cal phenomenon, and we all know that can’t be good.
With these dire situations looming on the horizon, there are things to be done and preparations to be made.
Be sure to get your Christmas cards in the mail early, order a subscription to the Gazette for somebody you’ve always wanted to do something nice for and make sure you have plenty of batteries for your camera. It might also be a good time to learn a second language, although it is hard to tell which one will be of the most use.
