Bulldog V-netters honor four seniors at banquet

Four seniors honored last Thursday night at the Bulldog volleyball banquet were Deanna Aeschliman, Amelie Bruya, Rachel Robinson and Sidney Huber.

Special award winners at the Bulldog volleyball banquet, from the left, were Taylor Larsen, Amelie Bruya, Cassidy Vorderbrueggen, Sidney Huber and Rachel Robinson.

Robinson received the inspirational award and Cassie Vorderbrueggen was named most improved player. Bruya and Taylor Larsen were co-winners of the most valuable player award. All were decided by a team vote.

Bruya, the team’s setter, received the coaches’ award.

Seniors Bruya, Huber and Robinson received captain’s awards. Bruya is the last of four sisters who were part of the Bulldog volleyball program over a 14-year span.

Senior academic awards went to Sidney Huber and Rachel Robinson.

Coach Sue Doering noted a revised tabulation of the Bulldogs’ season puts their record at 31-3 which rates among the best on record during her years as coach of the teams.

Highlights of the team’s year was the summer trip to Phoenix and the camp at WSU.

Coach Doering said the win over Freeman, former long-time foe in the NE, was a good way to start the year. The team placed 12th in the crossover tournament at Spokane, and won the district and league tournaments.

Colfax placed second in the state tournament at the SunDome after Reardan took the last three games of a five-game championship match. The Colfax coach credited the seniors on Reardan’s defending title team with stopping Colfax in the last match of the season.

“It was tough to watch the championship slip away,” she commented. However, she noted the Bulldogs downed Reardan four out of the five times the two league power clubs collided.

Coach Doering recognized all-league players Bruya, who was named MVP, Larsen, Sheer, and Vorderbrueggen. Sidney Huber was selected for the league second team. Captains for next year’s team will include Larsen, Nicole Sheer and Vorderbrueggen.

Juniors on the varsity were Bailey Mackleit, Vorderbrueggen, Leah Heiner, Larsen and Nicole Sheer. Sophomore varsity players were Amara Huber, Kindra Kneale and Kori Goodwin.

Junior Varsity Coach presented certificates to Olivia Mellor, Scout Cai, Holly Rimbey, Carolyn Knaack, Elizabeth Ekin and Bekah Kraut.

Freshman Coach Magee Cochran presented C squad awards to Miah Gingerich, Kelly Ward, Mattie Thomas, Allison Dunning, Katelyn Scholz, Morgan Lord, Kylie Gronning and Sidney Sheer.
