Uniontown and LaCrosse are the recipients of $24,000 in grants announced by the Inland Northwest Community Foundation Dec. 17.
Uniontown Community Development Association (UCDA) was awarded $11,150 for the Uniontown Beautification Project while LaCrosse Community Pride accepted $23,374 for their historic store renovation project.
UCDA president Dale Miller said Uniontown’s money will go toward matching funds for a National Endowment for the Arts “Creative Placemaking” grant the city received earlier this year.
Miller indicated that the first projects funded under the $56,000 NEA grant will be public art for the south and north end of town, and renovation of the loafing shed on the Dahmen Barn property, turning the space into a studio and performance area.
In January, the UCDA will decide on the parameters for the public art – materials and size – then issue a request for proposals.
LaCrosse Community Pride will put their grant money toward the continued renovation of a 1915 historic store building which will house a grocery store, library and community meeting area.
The LaCrosse and Uniontown grants are part of $463,116 to 15 eastern Washington nonprofit organizations through the most recent Community Strategies Grant Program.
The Community Strategies Grant Program, comprised of 63 funds established by donors, supports programs related to community and economic development, human services, education, arts, culture and environmental preservation.
