Colfax girls pegged a 21-point win over the LRS Broncos Tuesday night on the home court to finish a 2-1 run to wrap up the pre-holiday part of their season. Despite a turnover-prone start, the Bulldogs built a solid lead Tuesday for a 57-36 win to advance their league mark to 4-1.
Nicole Sheer snags a rebound in front of Reardan senior Kelsey Moos.They hosted the Bronco girls Tuesday after a thriller win over Northwest Christian at Colbert Saturday and a loss to Reardan’s veterans on the home court.
Saturday at Colbert, the Bulldogs pegged a one-point win, 48-47, on a last strike play in the last seconds of the game. The Crusader girls led 47-46 going into the final seconds before Colfax senior guard Amelie Bruya tagged a foul in a move to get a possession.
NWC’s shooter missed the first toss shot, and Nicole Sheer ripped off the rebound and shot it down the court to a breaking Amara Huber who put in a layup to reverse the lead.
Friday on their home court, the Bulldog girls battled a veteran Reardan team, but never saw a lead after the opening minutes. Reardan, led by 16 points from Charlen Gray, stacked a 35-23 lead at the half.
The defending champs arrived in Colfax after sustaining a non-league loss to Brewster the previous week in a rematch of the state title game. The win by the Bears ended a win string the lasted over the two title season’s
Reardan’s Kelsey Moos had to go to the bench with a foul load in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs couldn’t make up much ground during her absence. Bruya put together a fast five-point run in the last quarter to get the gap down to 10 point.
In Tuesday’s pre-holiday closer, the Bulldogs finished the first quarter with a two-point lead after sustaining a string of turnovers. Coach Corey Baerlocher noted 10 of the turnovers during the game were unforced.
Colfax got back on track in the second quarter and posted a 34-18 lead at the break, Nicole Sheer led the locals with 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Colfax offset some of the turnover mistakes with 16 steals off the Broncos’ defense.
