A memorial was unveiled in Mankato, Minn., commemorating the 150th anniversary of the hanging of 38 Dakota men. It is the largest mass execution in United States history.

A suicide car bomber killed three Afghans and injured six in an attempt to attack a US-operated base in Eastern Afghanistan. Before reaching the base, the minivan was stopped by a security checkpoint where it detonated.

Thunderbirds creator, Gerry Anderson, passed away at 83. He was diagnosed with mixed dementia two years ago. The British native was a pioneer in puppetry and sci-fi creations.
