New commissioners move in: Largent elected board chairman

Michael Largent was elected as the new chairman for the Whitman County Board of Commissioners Monday morning.

Newly-elected Commissioner Art Swannack was elected vice-chairman. Dean Kinzer is the third member of the board.

The commissioners also were assigned committees during the meeting.

Largent will represent commissioners on the Palouse Empire Fair Board, Law Enforcement Officers/Firefighters Board, state Association of Counties Legislative Steering Committee, Greater Columbia Behavior Health Regional Support Network and Joint Planning Advisory Committee. As chairman, Largent also will be on the Board of Adjustment, Finance Committee and Hearings Examiner Board.

Swannack will be the representative on the Incident Team, Martin Hall Juvenile Facilities Consortium, Palouse Basin Aquifer Committee and Snake River Salmon Recovery Board.

Kinzer’s assignments are Rural Transportation Planning Organization, Southeast Washington Economic Development Association, Whitcom Executive Board and Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.

All commissioners will attend the Board of Equalization, Board of Health, Monthly Financial Review meeting, semi-annual Latah-Whitman County meetings, semi-annual Port of Whitman-Whitman County Commissioners meetings and the Quad Cities meetings.
