James D. “Jimmie” Hall, 91, longtime Colfax resident, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Whitman Hospital.
Mr. Hall was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Steptoe the youngest of six children to James R. and Ida M. (McNabb) Hall (Roberts).
He spent his youth in Steptoe and attended Steptoe High School.
In 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, but was medically discharged in boot camp.
Returning to the Northwest, he moved to St. Helens, Ore., where he drove bus for Oregon Motor Coaches between Portland and Astoria.
It was on this route that he met his future wife of 51 years, Helen E. Milne.
They were married Oct. 18, 1945, and moved back to Colfax where he was employed as a truck driver, mostly for Colfax Grange Supply and the Whitman County Road Department.
Jimmie and Helen enjoyed playing cards with friends, trips to Portland, the Oregon Coast and Jackpot, Nev.
He was preceded in death by sisters Ada Roberts, Zelma Ablutz, Gladys Day, Essie Bafus, his fraternal twin Jean Brandl and his wife Helen. Jimmie is survived by a son, Lonnie D. Hall of Cheney; a daughter, Sally Jackson of Castle Rock; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
