MUSIC
Tuba, euphonium recital at Bryan Hall
Chris Dickey, a WSU instructor of tuba and euphonium, will present Il Dolce Suono, a recital featuring original compositions for the tuba and euphonium at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in the Bryan Hall Theatre.
A highlight of the program is Francois Glorieux’s Concerto for Euphonium, which Dickey will perform with the WSU Wind Ensemble at the 2013 Northwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference later this year. Additional selections include music written by John Stevens, Eddy Debons and Bernard Krol. Dickey will collaborate with Kristin Elgersma, assistant professor of piano in the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho.
In addition to teaching tuba and euphonium, Dickey conducts the brass ensemble, teaches music theory, coaches chamber music, and performs in the WSU faculty brass quintet. He is a founding member of the Northwest Brass, a variable-instrumentation chamber ensemble specializing in contemporary brass literature. Other performance credits include the Walla Walla and Washington-Idaho Symphonies, the Chicago and St. Louis Brass Bands, the National Wind Ensemble, the St. Louis Wind Symphony, and the Eastern Symphony Orchestra.
Admission is free for WSU students, $10 general admission; $5 for senior citizens and non-WSU students.
ART
Museum of Art
To start off 2013, The Museum of Art/WSU presents Ceramics From the Kolva-Sullivan Collection from Jan. 7 to March 30. There will be an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Museum of Art/WSU Gallery. As always, all exhibitions at the Museum are free and open to the public.
The Jim Kolva and Pat Sullivan collection is a comprehensive sampling of Northwest ceramic artists. Having owned and operated a Gallery in Spokane for many years, the two have built a proverbial “who’s who” collection of northwest ceramic art. The Kolva - Sullivan Gallery, housed in a great industrial warehouse space, along with their “Soho style” loft residence has presented many exhibits that include a ceramics emphasis and new work by emerging artists.
The Museum of Art is located on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium in the Fine Arts Center on the WSU Pullman campus. Gallery hours are Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays and closed on Sundays. For more information please contact the museum or visit the website at museum.wsu.edu.
