Three Colfax wrestlers place at Warden tournament

The Colfax High School wrestling team had three placers at the Jeremiah Schmunk tournament in Warden Saturday, Jan. 4.

Thomas Newton of St. John works his way toward second place in the 138-pound class.

In the 195-pound class, Ray Compton won two matches and lost in the final to place second. Thomas Newton placed second in the 138-pound class.

At 120 pounds, Mitch Barney won two and lost two to finish fourth, after losing the third-place match to Tyson Yamane of Warden, 2 to 1. A one-point penalty on Barney for locking proved key.

“That cost him the match,” said Colfax coach Dennis Gransbery.

In the 132-pound class, Reggie Jones won two and lost two, placing fifth by pinning Tamely Espinoza of Kittitas.

Additional results include Aaron Arneson, who won one match and lost two in the 220-pound class, and Tyson Rogers, who won one and lost two at 120-pounds. Also in the 120-pound class, Trapper Adkins lost two matches.

The Colfax team is made up of mostly Colfax High wrestlers, along with several from around the county.

For the Warden tournament, the team was represented by six from Colfax, one from St. John (Newton) and one from Gar-Pal (Adkins).

The team placed seventh out of 11 teams.

Colfax will compete next Thursday at Davenport vs. Davenport and Central Valley.
