Colfax boys rolled north to Spokane Friday night and again ran into the powerful St. George’s Dragons who appear to be in a wrap mode as the league action advances into the second half of the NE schedule.

The league leaders again put the defensive clamps on the Bulldogs for a 61-38 win.

The Bulldogs, now 7-3 in league play, battled back for wins in their next two league rounds with a 57-49 win after a battle on the home court Saturday night and win over Reardan on the road in the Tuesday round.

Friday the St. George’s Dragons rolled out a repeat of the first league round with heavy trap pressure on Brandon Gfeller, sharp shooting and a heavy inside game. The Dragons’ hustling finished with 16 steals for the night and held Gfeller to just five points.

Dexter Sienko, who had a big game for the Dragons at Colfax in the first round, pulled down 17 boards on his home court Friday, and Erik Muelheims hit 22 points, including three treys.

Colfax early in the game came within two points of the league leaders, but the Dragons roared for 24 points after the halftime break and never looked back.

St. George’s remains undefeated in the league and their lone loss on the season was a one-pointer to Pullman in a non-league test.

Brady Ellis led the Bulldogs with 17 points. He also hit three from the three-point zone.

Saturday on their home court, the Bulldogs and Davenport fought through three quarters before Colfax finally hit the groove at the start of the fourth. Ellis started the charge with a threebie, and Kasey Johnson booked a reverse lay-up.

Brandon Gfeller broke out to top Colfax with 25 points for the night, and Keith Gfeller came off the bench for 15 points. Colfax cut their turnovers to just 13 in the scramble against Davenport.

Travis Stadman, who led Davenport with 14, tied the early battle at 28-28 with a bucket with 3:40 left in the third quarter, and Josh Likkel hit a pair of toss shots to post a short-lived Gorilla lead. Colfax finished the frame with a 34-32 edge and then blitzed to a 49-36 lead with their fourth quarter charge.
